Guest Mix + Interview – LYNY – FUXWITHIT

Chicago-based LYNY has quickly become one of our favourite rising stars in the trap space. After landing on our radar less than half a year ago, we’ve had the pleasure of premiering 3 of his recent releases including ‘walk’ with church., ‘Whippin,’ alongside L*o*J and the spicy Dabow collab ‘Caliente.’ His hard-hitting, no-nonsense trap style is exactly the sound that we’ve been missing. We’re predicting 2020 to be a massive breakout year for the young producer so it’s only right we had him drop off an exclusive guest mix to preview what’s to come. The mix features a grip of unreleased originals, including collabs alongside Jon Casey, capshun, Hangsty and more. We also caught up with LYNY for an interview to get to know him better. We discuss his upcoming collab EP with L*o*J, his signature sauce, what’s to come this year and more.

How’s Chicago been treating you? Were you born and raised there?

Good! And yes, born and raised. Realistically, 25 minutes away from mid-city, but I spent the majority of my time in the city. Chicago is beautiful. I think it’s easily one of the greatest cities in the world. Also the EDM scene here is crazy!

I recently started posting more of the stuff that I’ve been hiding, and that’s when people began to really latch on, and I’m blessed for that.

You’ve been putting out music for a few years but it feels like you’ve really just started making major waves recently. Is that fair to say or have we just been sleeping? Have you been doing anything different as of late?

I’ve been putting out music as LYNY and previously “Leiny” since around 2014, and I’ve been experimenting with digital audio workstations since around 2010. I was on a few labels back in the day posting basic festival trap beats and edits. I can’t say anyone was sleeping, however, as my sound was super underdeveloped. I recently started posting more of the stuff that I’ve been hiding, and that’s when people began to really latch on, and I’m blessed for that.

You have a ton of massive collabs in the works. What prompted all the collaboration?

This is a super good year for collabs! I’ve never had another year where I truly started branching out to other producers and making connections. I guess what prompted that was wanting to go out and produce more (to studios, friends houses in the city.) I felt trapped at home producing around people who didn’t really like to produce.

Speaking of collabs you’ve got an EP coming with L*o*J. What made you want to put out a full project with them? What should fans expect from it? Do you have a release date set?

Yes! I’m super excited for it! When we first made the collab, L*o*J asked me after if I wanted to maybe start an EP with them, and I was very down! We immediately started sending wips back and forth, and now we have a set idea and are almost done with it… expect it soon!

What’s the secret recipe to creating a signature LYNY slapper?

Serum. Definitely serum. Post processing. A LOT of post processing. And a cool beat tag. I credit my friend Archr for creating mine!

I’ve noticed it has really increased my motivation, even production wise (motivation to finish tracks, motivation to get things done, motivation to keep a schedule etc.). It’s truly a wonder.

You recently started working out. How are you feeling? Have you noticed any changes in your life as a result?

Oh man I do, in fact some of the best changes. I’ve never felt better. I used to feel like crap all the time and I couldn’t really deal with it anymore. So I got a recommendation to start a little plan. And man is it amazing. I’m still only halfway through, and my cardiovascular health is improving significantly.

I’ve noticed it has really increased my motivation, even production wise (motivation to finish tracks, motivation to get things done, motivation to keep a schedule etc.). It’s truly a wonder.

What do you look forward to outside of music?

Honestly I’m looking forward to going out after this pandemic! And also getting a degree. Maybe psychology? Undecided as of right now!

I want this to be the year that people start to see my true style come out. I’m going to be releasing a lot, streaming a lot, and collaborating a lot.

What do you want out of 2020?

I want this to be the year that people start to see my true style come out. I’m going to be releasing a lot, streaming a lot, and collaborating a lot. Although, expect an original soon. It’s called ‘Renegada.’ I think you’ll enjoy it, if you enjoy my style!

Tell us a little bit about Suburbia Collective. How did it get started? What’s the vision behind it?

Basically, Suburbia is a collective I made with my friends from high school and a few from SoundCloud discovery. We all produced and loved the scene, so we decided why the heck not? I can’t imagine it’d hurt us to start something like a collective. But aside from friends, they’re artists to look out for in the near future 🙂 The vision is to make listener’s more adaptive to collectives that have an extreme variety of music.

What should fans expect from the mix? How would you describe it in one sentence?

Fans will see 90%, if not 100% unreleased/recently released music from my mix. I could describe it as “unique.”
