Cult Classic Incoming: Meet The Cast Of The Weeknd’s New HBO Original Series ‘The Idol’
This week (April 17), we finally got the latest teaser trailer for the upcoming HBO original series ‘The Idol.’ The drama created by Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson (HBO’s Euphoria) will air on HBO and be available to stream on Max June 4. Check out the trailer below.
The show will center on Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), an aspiring pop idol who, after having a nervous breakdown that causes her last tour to be canceled, resolves to reclaim her title as the sexiest pop star in America and begins a complicated relationship with a self-help guru and the head of a contemporary cult. Will her romantic awakening take her to glorious new heights or the deepest and darkest depths of her soul?
Lily-Rose Depp will star in the series opposite of The Weeknd. The Idol will also star Troye Sivan, Dan Levy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, Suzanna Son and Hank Azaria.
On top of creating and writing the show, Tesfaye, Fahim and Levinson (who also directed) also served as executive producers alongside Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Joseph Epstein, Aaron L. Gilbert for BRON, and Sara E. White. The series was produced in partnership with A24. Before it debuts on HBO, the series will premiere at this year’s Festival de Cannes.
