Porsha Williams Files For Divorce From Simon Guobadia After 15 Months Of Marriage
Porsha Williams and Simon Guobadia are getting divorced after being married for a little over a year.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star filed for divorce from Guobadia on Thursday (Feb. 22) in Atlanta, PEOPLE reports.
The split is currently determined as “an ongoing matter,” but speculations began swirling that the filing had something to do with Guobadia’s citizen status. However, the outlet reports that a source clarified that the divorce is “unrelated to recent allegations involving Simon’s past.”
Those allegations involve Guobadia being involved in fraud between 1988 and 1991, including using a false identity on his temporary resident pass-through, and not disclosing his criminal past on immigration documents, The Atlanta Black Star reports.
Williams and Guobadia tied the knot in November 2022 with an exquisite, traditional, Nigerian wedding, which involved a ton of dancing, beautiful wardrobe and of course, money flying everywhere. The couple also had an American wedding ceremony in Atlanta.
The two got engaged in May 2021 after only a month of dating. The announcement brought on a ton of controversy, as Guobadia was once married to Williams’ RHOA co-star, Falynn Pina.
“Yes we are crazy in love,” Williams captioned a photo with Guobadia at the time. “I know it’s fast but we are living life each day to its fullest. I choose happiness every morning and every night.” Guobadia doubled down on their love, with his own caption saying, “we checked ALL of each other’s boxes, and then some.”
Amid the couple’s legal journey, Williams will be returning to the hit franchise for its 16th season. Bravo made the formal announcement on Tuesday (Feb. 13) with the 42-year-old
“I’m incredibly thankful for the vision and faith NBCUniversal has put in me to be a larger part of their family,” Williams said upon the news breaking. “I’m looking forward to being back on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and showing the world my new world!”
Along with her comeback, Williams will also focus on “scripted project opportunities” with NBCUniversal Entertainment.
Rachel Smith, executive vice president of unscripted content, lifestyle and documentaries, NBCUniversal Entertainment, stated, “Porsha Williams Guobadia is a multi-hyphenate and we are fortunate to collaborate and tap into her creativity and passion through this partnership. Our audience has supported and admired Porsha as she so authentically, hilariously and vulnerably shared her life over the years and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome her back to the NBCU family.”
Williams joined RHOA during its fifth season and stayed until season 13. Following the show, the mother of one appeared with her husband on the Real Housewives spinoff, Porsha’s Family Matters in 2021.
