Jeezy Gets Political In ‘Hip-Hop And The White House’ Trailer
Jeezy details what called him to the intersection of music and politics in the trailer for Hip-Hop And The White House. The documentary explores subjects including Ye’s infamous “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” rant, Ronald Reagan and the crack epidemic, the Clinton era, and Barack Obama’s playlists.
“2Pac, N.W.A and those guys connected me because it was in the language I speak,” the “Standing Ovation” rapper detailed.
“This is the story about how Hip-Hop got the power,” declared another voice at the end of the preview.
The documentary features additional commentary from Common, YG, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, KRS-One, Roxanne Shante, Bun B, Bakari Kitwana, Farai Chideya, Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Curren$y, Dave “Davey D” Cook, Grandmaster Caz, Waka Flocka Flame, and Chika.
The project was announced last month as part of &360, a new documentary anthology from Andscape, intended to explore the influence of Black culture on American society.
“We feel this is the perfect time to discuss how hip-hop has influenced presidential politics and to ask what we can expect from the culture in this upcoming election season,” detailed Jesse Washington, senior writer at Andscape and writer, director, and executive producer of Hip-Hop and the White House.
“&360 provides an incredible opportunity to explore and illuminate important stories that have never been fully told. I’m looking forward to passing the &360 baton to the next storyteller and seeing new visions come to life.”
Hip-Hop And The White House is set to debut on Hulu April 22.
