Fantasia Gets Key To Hometown In Special Street Renaming Ceremony
Fantasia is still making history and receiving her flowers.
On Sunday (June 16), the American Idol winner was honored in her hometown of High Point, N.C., with the key to the city and the key to the county in a special street renaming ceremony.
“Today This Happened… Today I realized how much I miss my city ( High Point Nc) the place where I was born and raised, the place that taught me everything I know,” said the Color Purple actress.
Fantasia continued, “They showed up today and gave me a street name, highway signs, a key to our City and for the first time Ever a key to the County. It’s so much I want to say, but I’m still in awe of all the Love and support from today. North Main get ready because we are about to Build.”
Back in May, the High Point Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to name a two-block section of Edmondson Place between N. University Parkway and Underhill Street in east High Point as Fantasia Avenue, the High Point Enterprise reported.
During the ceremony, the “When I See U” singer was dubbed the hometown hero and also repped her sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho.
The street renaming comes two months after she was named one of TIME’s most 100 influential people and after she launched her company, Rock Soul Productions, with event producer Yvonne McNair.
With headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, Rock Soul seeks to be “the intersection where creativity and excellence in entertainment meet.” It will offer “comprehensive management services” and will “focus on creating audience-driven experiences through live events, film and TV opportunities, and digital content.”
