Diddy’s Honorary Howard University Degree Revoked Following Cassie Assault Video Release
Diddy‘s honorary Howard University degree from 2014 has been officially revoked by the institute following the release of the 2016 footage showing the mogul assaulting Cassandra Fine. According to The Hilltop, HU issued an official statement regarding their decision, explaining that Sean Combs is “no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor.”
Howard expressed that they will “accept the return by Mr. Sean Combs of the honorary degree” and withdraw “all honors and privileges” associated with Puffy’s 2014 Doctor of Humanities honorary degree, which included privileges such as being invited to partake in HU special events.
“Mr. Combs’ behavior, as captured in a recently released video, is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor,” the statement read.
The historically Black university later noted that it plans to return Combs’ $1 million pledge to the institute, which was unanimously decided upon in a June 7 vote. Additionally, HU stated that Sean Combs’ pledge, which he vowed to give the university in 2023, was never fulfilled.
CNN released the 2016 footage of Diddy assaulting Cassie in May, showing the Bad Boy founder running after her in a hotel as she attempted to flee from him. He then slams her down to the ground and begins stomping and kicking her around the floor. Later in the video, Combs is seen throwing vases at someone off-camera who appears to be the model.
Jake Porter, Kim Porter’s father, finally reacted to the surveillance footage in an interview with Rolling Stone, saying that he was “disgusted” by the clip. He also stated that the footage gave him a “different outlook” on Diddy, saying, “You can say I was disgusted with the video, and I wouldn’t treat my enemy like that. It was despicable. I couldn’t believe it. I was in Vietnam, and I wouldn’t do that to my enemy.”
Mr. Porter then admitted that he had never seen or heard anything “to that extent” happening to his late daughter, but “it made me wonder.” The conversation found Kim’s father giving more details about his daughter’s relationship with Sean Combs and proclaiming that she genuinely loved the mogul. However, he stated that she “just couldn’t live with” him under one roof, stating, “I think he was a very jealous person. They both loved each other. Kim’s love was legitimate. Puffy’s love, I don’t know what he calls love. I really don’t think he has any idea what love is.”
