D.L. Hughley Sarcastically Replies To Dr. Umar Wanting To Debate Him, Steve Harvey, And Rickey Smiley

D.L. Hughley, fresh off of the 2024 DNC stage, responded to Dr. Umar Johnson’s proposal that he debate the stand-up, as well as Steve Harvey and Rickey Smiley, over presidential hopeful Kamala Harris and the Democrats’ plan for the Black community if she were to win the November election.

Rather than take the proposal seriously, Hughley “agreed,” but only if the debate could be held at Dr. Umar’s school, a project Johnson has been promoting — and accepting donations for — for years, with seemingly little progress made.

“BET!! WHY DON’T WE TELEVISE IT LIVE FROM THE CAFETERIA OF YOUR SCHOOL!!
AFTER THE KIDS HAVE ALL HAD LUNCH PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, WEARING FREE UNIFORMS PROVIDED THROUGH ALL THE DONATIONS YOU’VE TAKEN IN FOR YEARS,” Hughley, 61, captioned a re-post of Johnson’s debate challenge.

“DR. DO-LITTLE, THIS AIN’T WHAT YOU WANT,” he wrapped up. Listen to Johnson’s proposal and read Hughley’s response below.

Dr. Umar’s proposal followed Hughley apologizing to Harris at the 2024 Democratic National Convention for past jabs he took at the politico without first doing research. It also follows Steve Harvey replying to him regarding accusations of being paid to support the former prosecutor’s run for the White House.

“Brother Umar, let me say this man. I absolutely love some of the things you say. I really, really do. Some of the stuff, I don’t always agree with, but ain’t nobody got to agree with everything I say. But let me clear the air on something. You can’t hire Steve Harvey for $10,000,” he stated, as Johnson claimed he was offered $10K for an interview with Harris.

“Don’t insult the brand equity that I’ve built over these 30 years of television…I’m doing this absolutely free of charge because I want this country to be in her hands as opposed to Donald Trump’s hands. That’s why I do it.”

Dr. Umar originally took to Instagram Live claiming that the Harris campaign is attempting to “buy” the Black vote via paid endorsements.

“Kamala Harris and the Democratic plantation is paying you celebrities, paying you to shame Black people into voting [for Harris]. Ya’ll know we not going to get nothing out of that vote…ya’ll being bought,” Dr. Umar claimed. “They offered me $10K for an interview with Kamala Harris. I don’t want your money, but we can definitely do the interview…yes, we can do the interview, but keep your damn money.”
