Guest Mix + Interview – FETISH

LA-based producer and DJ FETISH has been heating up the house scene for the past few years. First landing on our radar with the What You Want EP on CONFESSION, the heaters have not stopped since. From Insomniac and House Call, to On Deck Records and DND RECS, plus a myriad of self-releases, the consistency is equally matched by the quality. 2022 promises to be FETISH’s biggest year to date and we’re helping to set it off right with a Guest Mix + Interview from the rising star.

The mix is exclusively the artist’s own work including a healthy helping of unreleased gems. It will have you amped up to hit the club and dance your ass off. As for the interview we discuss how he’s keeping healthy, his love for Anime, living with Peekaboo, Effin and Sully, and much more. Jump in below.

What was your goal in putting the mix together? Where are you taking listeners with this one?

What’s up guys! Really glad to be sharing this mix with everyone. Honestly, the goal with this mix was to share some of my favorite IDs I’ve been playing out! I’m sitting on a TON of new music and I’m so hyped to share some of them here.

I’m healthier and more balanced now than I have been in a long time. For a while I was putting all my energy into music. I was writing and producing every day as much as I could, which definitely helped me improve, but it’s not sustainable.

You recently tweeted that you’re healthier than you’ve ever been. Congrats! What led you to this point? How are you keeping healthy?

Thank you so much! I’m healthier and more balanced now than I have been in a long time. For a while I was putting all my energy into music. I was writing and producing every day as much as I could, which definitely helped me improve, but it’s not sustainable. Alongside producing, I’m back to eating right, meditating, working out, and spending time with the people I love.

House or techno?

Both. All the time.

What’s your ultimate uber eats meal?

This is tough, but I think a Bento Box wins. That or a burrito with very spicy hot sauce.

These are just different mediums for world-building and I find that anime has some of the deepest storytelling experiences you can have.

What sparked your love for anime? Why do you love it so much?

I’ve been a massive anime fan for my entire life. Everything from Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z as a kid, to Avatar the Last Airbender and Attack On Titan now. And everything in between. Great anime, just like all great art, is about storytelling. I’ve always had a super visceral reaction to great stories and their characters. For me, songs can be one kind of story that can give you that emotional response in just a few minutes. A movie can do it in several hours. Anime can sometimes be 40 or 50 hours! These are just different mediums for world-building and I find that anime has some of the deepest storytelling experiences you can have.

It was like a creative and nerdy paradise.

You’ve had some pretty dope producer roommates over the years including Peekaboo, Effin, and Sully. What has that experience been like? What impact has it had on your journey as an artist?

God I miss that house. There is no question that living with the boys influenced my production in a serious way. When you have one specific house packed with that many creative people who are grinding music all the time, everyone improves. I know I learned so much from working with them. What I miss the most is just the amount of fun we had. Working tunes, gaming, taking trips, grilling in the back. It was like a creative and nerdy paradise.

‘Cum Check This’ has amassed over 3 million plays on Spotify! What do you feel is responsible for the success of this one?

Cum Check This is one of my favorite songs no question. TikTok has been huge for  Cum Check This, it’s been viewed 135 million times which is fucking insane to me.  It has its own trending dance! Sonically, I think it’s one of the most unique tracks I  have, and I personally love the use of a simple whisper and a relentless bass to carry an entire song.

What’s your fetish?

My first thought was to try to say something clever, but now I think I’m just gonna list some of the things that I think are reallllllly hot. High heels, thigh-high socks, good taste in music, good taste in anime, Scarlet Johansson.

FETISH has my full attention, but I really believe that my music and my mind are benefiting from the Uncle Iroh method, pulling wisdom and inspiration from many different sources.

What should fans expect from you this year musically?

A shitload of new songs! I’m working so hard to make sure that my new tracks hit harder than ever. I can feel myself improving and I love it. I have show announcements coming up, and I’m building my love for anime into FETISH in some really exciting ways. I think my fans and my loved ones can and should expect a more balanced person too.
