Donald Trump Blames DEI For DC Crash, Slammed By Social Media

Donald Trump has a strong suspicion that DEI is the reason for the fatal Washington D.C. aircraft crash.

The 47th president held a press conference Thursday (Jan. 30) in the aftermath of the tragedy where he detailed immediate steps that were being taken into an investigation.

At one point, the conference flies off the rails, with Trump shifting to blaming previous United States presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden for the accident. During this diatribe, Trump claimed that Biden’s administration stated that the Federal Aviation Administration workforce “was too white” and accused them of bringing in diversity hires to take jobs from people who were “psychologically superior.” The controversial figure then takes aim at diversity, equity, and inclusion programs for potentially causing the crash that killed 67 people.

“It just could have been. We have a high standard. We’ve had a much higher standard than anybody else. And there are things where you have to go by brainpower. You have to go by psychological quality, and psychological quality is a very important element of it,” Trump told a reporter, per the Associated Press. “These are various, very powerful tests that we put to use. And they were terminated by Biden. And Biden went by a standard that seeks the exact opposite. So we don’t know.

“But we do know that you had two planes at the same level. You had a helicopter and a plane. That shouldn’t have happened. And, we’ll see. We’re going to look into that, and we’re going to see. But certainly for an air traffic controller, we want the brightest, the smartest, the sharpest. We want somebody that’s psychologically superior. And that’s what we’re going to have.”

When asked how he could possibly come to a conclusion that diversity had a hand in the accident when the investigation is ongoing, Trump declared it was apparent “because I have common sense.”

“And unfortunately, a lot of people don’t. We want brilliant people doing this. This is a major chess game at the highest level. When you have 60 planes coming in during a short period of time, and they’re all coming in different directions, and you’re dealing with very high-level computer, computer work and very complex computers.”

Reporters then challenged Trump after he claimed that Biden and Obama had changed the FAA to try and hire more workers with disabilities. A reporter argued that the FAA website that Donald Trump referenced had existed for over a decade—including his first presidential term. Regardless, the convicted felon doubled down on his claims, arguing that he “did change…the Obama policy, and we had a very good policy…And then Biden came in and he changed it. And then when I came in two days, three days ago, I signed a new order, bringing it to the highest level of intelligence,” he added.

And to make matters worse, Trump then signed an executive order effectively blaming Joe Biden for the accident over the FAA’s failure to protect innocent lives. We know what you’re thinking and yeah, we know.

Social media immediately reacted to the press conference, slamming the divisive political figure for meeting the moment with combative rhetoric instead of being more empathetic towards the family of the victims. Other folks pointed out that the men flying the planes and the controller were all white men—demographics not associated with DEI programs.

“Donald Trump says DEI is the reason for the crash, this is the crew chief on the Blackhawk. He doesn’t look DEI to me,” one person typed on X/Twitter, showing a picture of a white man. “Good morning and Happy Friday to everyone who agrees that Trump had a unique opportunity to appear presidential yesterday but squandered it by being a divider-in-chief, blaming a tragedy on DEI policies. He can’t help himself. Donald Trump is a f**king racist,” another account declared.

Dr. Bernice King, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s daughter, even offered her opinion on the matter, blasting Trump for failing to meet the moment. “The message evoked racism, discrimination, and continued misunderstanding of the intent of initiatives that did not dismiss merit and excellence, but ensured that merit and excellence were not dismissed in non-white, non-male, non-heterosexual, differently-abled people,” she typed. “We have a choice, America. We can educate and elevate ourselves beyond this.”
