Guest Mix + Interview – GAWM – FUXWITHIT

Aggressively blurring the lines between brutally hard-hitting trap and dubstep, Los Angeles’s GAWM has swiftly set himself apart as one of the most progressive production minds in the game. Garnering support from some of the top taste-makers in the entire industry in the form of Excision and Skrillex, his style has intrigued even true masters of their craft. With the amount of hype following this young, gifted artist, we thought it would only be fitting to have him on as the 114th edition of our guest mix and interview series. Serving up some of the hottest unreleased tunes we’ve heard in quite some time, this mix is assuredly not for the faint of heart. Check out the full interview and mix for yourself below!

Which came first for you: Musical talent or the desire to be a DJ?

DJ first, but that was only because I wanted to become a radio DJ .

I see you live in LA! I’ve heard the music scene is pretty wild out there, would you care to talk about what it’s like?

It all depends where you go to be honest. My favorite club to go to is Academy Los Angeles. The lighting and overall vibes in there are wild. Plus you’ll never know what big artist might show up.

How’s quarantine been treating you? Staying sane amid all the chaos in the world right now?

At this point since we’ve been on lockdown for so long it’s getting to me. It’s hard to keep the motivation and consistency going, but I’m really putting in the work and making a lot of dope tunes. Having a regular job was giving me the structure to put a lot of time and work into my craft. It’s hard to get in the groove without that structure.

Nothing will beat that love I have for the music and live entertainment.

What was the first festival you ever attended, and what’s your favorite memory from it?

EDC 2009 was my first festival. My favorite memory from that night was shuffling inside a big circle with a couple of my high school friends. Nothing will beat that love I have for the music and live entertainment.

You recently tweeted that the Bloody Beetroots were the first group to really get you into EDM. What song in particular from them really grabbed your attention, and what about the music in general set it apart from what you had experienced previously?

‘Warp 1.9’ ft Steve Aoki is one of my all time favorites. That song is so intense, there’s no way you’re not dancing or ragging to that. It’s just a unique tune that I think really started a movement with having that rock/screamo crossover we see a lot in electronic music today.

Tell us about the guest mix you prepared for us today!

All I can say is there’s a lot of heavy IDs from myself and a couple friends. I’m sitting on so much music right now and I can’t wait to get it out. I wanted to dedicate this mix to show the listeners a little bit of what they’re gonna get from me this summer.

…wrapping up my second EP of the year that will be coming out in early August. I also have a handful of collabs with some of my close producer friends in the works. It’s gonna be a heavy summer.

When can we expect more new music from you?

I’m gonna be releasing some official remixes for some of my favorite artists pretty soon. I’m also wrapping up my second EP of the year that will be coming out in early August. I also have a handful of collabs with some of my close producer friends in the works. It’s gonna be a heavy summer.

Are you playing any upcoming live streams?

Yes, I will be playing another live stream sometime this week. The homie Dack Janiels invited me out to play a b2b set with the boy HAMI for a 40oz takeover. So that should be really fun and exciting to look forward to!
