New lawsuit for Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign accused of copyright infringement
The release of Vultures 1 by Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign was a bit turbulent, with delays and controversies linked mostly to Ye’s public statements and copyright issues. As soon as the album was released, the two artists had problems with Ozzy Osbourbe and with those who manage his musical assets Donna Summer for using a sample of the song I Feel Love. Ye was basically accused of taking a version of Donna Summer’s song I Feel Love and putting it on Good (Don’t Die) despite being denied permission. The lawsuit was settled in June, but now Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign are being sued over another sample in the song “Fuk Sumn.” The copyright infringement lawsuit was filed by a trio of artists: Criminal Manne, DJ Squeeky and Kilo G and claims that the song sampled at the beginning of “Fuk Sumn” was taken from DJ Squeeky’s track “Drank a Yak ( Part 2)”.
The trio say they tried to negotiate with Alien Music when “Fuk Sumn” was released, but Kanye West fired much of his staff in May and the negotiations never ended. Criminal Manne, DJ Squeeky and Kilo G say they still haven’t received their royalties and that Kanye West’s representatives have disappeared.
This is just the latest lawsuit to be filed against West in recent months.
The rapper has been accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit filed by his former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, and is also facing lawsuits from former employees, many of whom worked at his now-shuttered school, Donda Academy.
