I Do My Own Stunts: Damson Idris & Brad Pitt Set To Co-Star In An Apple Original Films Formula One Racing Movie
With the series finale of FX’s Snowfall just a couple short weeks away (April 19), we all can ease the pain of seeing one of the greatest television shows of our time end with some good news about the person who portrays its main character. After several months of meetings, auditions and driving tests, Damson Idris has been tapped to co-star alongside Brad Pitt in a new racing film. The highly anticipated movie based in the world of Formula One will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, the man at the helm of box office smash Top Gun: Maverick.
Apple Originals Films will make the yet to be titled film and it will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. On top of directing, Kosinski will serve as a producer along with Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman (Jery Bruckheimer Films) and seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton under his Dawn Apollo Films banner. One of Hamilton’s business partner’s and the CEO of Copper (a diversified talent investment and advisory firm) Penni Thow will take on executive producer responsibilities. Ehren Kruger, who also worked with Joseph Kosinski on Top Gun: Maverick will write the screenplay for the feature.
Brad Pitt will star as a racer who comes out of retirement in order to mentor a younger driver (Damson Idris) and make his final attempt at glory on the track. Dating all the way back to November, producers had been meeting with prospective actors who were going out for the role. Due to Kosinski’s love for using natural effects, the actors didn’t only have to do screen tests. In January, they were put through multiple driving tests to show that they could handle the extreme driving scenes that would be in the film. The action sequences in this one are sure to be amazing!
Considering the fact that he secured the role, It’s evident that Damson Idris left a lasting impression during his auditions. He looks to add to a resume that includes his acclaimed role on the aforementioned Snowfall, Netflix’s Outside the Wire and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s Farming. The 31 year-old has guest starred on Black Mirror and the Jordan Peele reboot of The Twilight Zone. Outside of Snowfall, he has most recently been on the critically-acclaimed Amazon Prime limited series Swarm.
