Wendy Williams Signs Paperwork To End Guardianship, Still Needs Final Approval From Judge

Wendy Williams is taking proper action to end her guardianship.
TMZ reported on Wednesday (Feb. 12) that she’s signed an affidavit requesting to be set free. In the filing, the radio veteran shared that she had “regained capacity” to function without her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey. Morrissey has been in charge of Williams’ well-being and finances since 2022. However, Williams claimed that she doesn’t suffer from frontotemporal dementia, despite what doctors have stated.
She’s set to be reevaluated next Tuesday by a doctor chosen by the attorney representing Williams to help end her guardianship. After the evaluation, her lawyer will file an Emergency Order to Show Cause—which is a petition to “force the issue with the judge” who has the final say in ending the guardianship.

If Williams’ request to end her guardianship is denied by a judge, she is planning on demanding a jury trial where they will assess if she actually has “regained capacity” to resume her normal life without a guardian.
One member of her legal team, Jason Atlas, told The New York Post, “everyone in the case has Wendy’s best interests at heart and we all expect that the ultimate outcome will be in line with those best interests.”

In the documentary TMZ Presents: Saving Wendy, she explained how she feels like a prisoner in an assisted living facility with no access to fresh air, internet, incoming phone calls, visitors, and more. Just yesterday, Williams seemingly confessed that her son triggered the guardianship and accused him of financial exploitation.
“My son, he overstepped his boundaries in terms of me. He overstepped his boundaries and he was inappropriately using my money without telling me crap about it,” she explained. Williams also expressed, “Look, my son is a good person. But at this point, he is a horrible person to me.”
