Tyler Perry Confirms ‘Why Did I Get Married 3’ Is In The Works

It’s official! Tyler Perry is reuniting the cast of his hit franchise, Why Did I Get Married?, for a third installment.
The entertainment mogul took to Instagram on Wednesday (July 30) with news of the film. In a cryptic post of the script’s title page, Perry wrote, “I’m just gonna sit this right here!”
The photo also read “Table Draft,” which could mean that production has begun or will begin soon.
He tagged the entire leading cast: Jill Scott, Lamman Rucker, Richard T. Jones, Janet Jackson, Sharon Leal, Michael Jai White, and Tasha Smith. Denise Boutte, who plays Trina, rallied for herself in the comments. “Who thinks Trina needs a comeback?!?!,” she quipped.
Smith commented, “Are we going to be TOGETHER AGAIN,” and later reposted the photo with a simple caption: “BOOM.” Fans of the franchise will immediately recognize the reference from the first movie and the infamous dinner table scene it accompanied.
Interest in a new Why Did I Get Married? began in October 2024 when Jones posted a video on TikTok mid-flight joking about his character leaving Sheila (Scott) behind, forcing her to drive up the mountain to save her marriage. It sparked a domino effect where each cast member sans Jackson replied with videos of their own and the buzz remained.
Dreams seemed to become a reality days later when Perry shared a photo of what appeared to be the script’s first draft. Back in April, hope was lost when Smith told The Breakfast Club that it’s “probably not happening” and it’s been radio silent across the board until now.
There’s no word on when Why Did I Get Married Again? will premiere in theaters or on a streaming platform.
