Toni Braxton Celebrates 57th Birthday With A Sexy “Fifty Fine” Photoshoot
Toni Braxton, one of music’s most unique and coveted voices, celebrated her 57th birthday with a dazzling “fifty fine” photoshoot.
The “Spanish Guitar” songstress shared BTS footage from her shoot on her Instagram, donning a gleaming, asymmetric, dark silver deep v-neck dress and silver pumps. The Maryland star wore long black tresses with a middle-part and a smokey grey makeup look.
“Fifty fine,” she posted of the milestone moment on her Instagram Monday (Oct. 7). In another post, Braxton said “happy birthday to me!” as she coyly looked over her shoulder.
In other news, Braxton and her sisters Trina, Towanda, Tamar, and mother Evelyn recently returned to reality TV with their titular show The Braxtons this year. This season centered around the family grappling with the loss of their eldest sister, Traci, who passed from cancer in March 2022.
“Before Traci passed, I was kinda angry at God,” said the seven-time Grammy-winner in a promo clip. “Why would God take her? I thought it was unfair. It’s unfair that Traci’s the one that’s sick. The one that dying, and I have lupus because I felt like I was the one that was gonna die first.”
Braxton has, too, had her share of health issues with the autoimmune disease, Lupus. Last yearthe “Breathe Again” singer opened up about her “traumatic” heart surgery she underwent in 2022, due to complications with her illness.
“I kept putting it off thinking, ‘Oh, I’m fine. I’ll be okay.’ But my doctor was persistent and I went to get tested in the last week of September. I did a specialized test and they looked at my heart and saw some abnormalities,” Braxton told PEOPLE. “I found out that I needed a coronary stent. My left main coronary artery was 80% blocked. The doctors told me I could’ve had a massive heart attack, I would not have survived.”
Recalling the “traumatic” moment, she continued, “I remember that day because my chest was aching often, just hurting. And I thought I was just sad because unfortunately my sister [Traci Braxton] had just passed and I thought, ‘Wow, I’m really aching in my heart for my sister.’ And come to find out, of course I was sad about my sister, but I also had underlying health issues. It was my body talking to me, telling me something’s not quite right.”
The “Unbreak My Heart” crooner also shared how grateful she was to have taken care of the medical complication early on.
“Had I not gotten that test, my life would’ve been different,” she admitted. “I look at it like it was a blessing in disguise for me because now, putting off tests? Oh no, I will not put off tests. If all I have to do for my lupus and my kidney health is pee in a cup, I can pee in a cup. How many times do you need me to pee? If all I gotta do is get my arm pricked for some blood? Oh yes, I can do that. How many vials do you need?”
Braxton also encouraged women to get checked for lupus as it is “two to three times more prevalent among African American, Hispanic/Latina, Asian American, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander women than among White women,” according to Lupus Foundation of America.
“It’s important to get those screenings — simple things,” Braxton informed. “The goal here is long life and old age. I know we’re all scared sometimes to go to the doctor. Especially for me having lupus, I was scared, I didn’t want to know. But I find that knowing is empowering and it gets my doctors on top of my lupus and my kidney health. And that’s the most important thing.”
