Tami Roman Cites “Confirmation Bias” For Not Accepting Her Daughter’s Girlfriend
Tami Roman is facing backlash over comments she made about her daughter, Jazz Anderson’s, lesbian relationship.
During her recent appearance on Kandi Burruss’ Burruss Banter podcast, the reality queen opened up about her discomfort, making it clear that Jazz’s girlfriend wouldn’t be invited to family events, including Jazz’s graduation and Thanksgiving.
According to Roman, her stance is about preserving her “mental health” and needing time to adjust to her daughter’s lifestyle. “I got to take a step back and figure out how it works for me and how I can be comfortable in that moment because there’s something called mental health that we have to be concerned about, and I got to be concerned about mine,” she said.
She also claimed that having a “confirmation bias” allows her to relate to her other daughter Lyric’s heterosexual lifestyle over Jazz’s LGBTQ choices. “There’s something called confirmation bias. When people think like you think or appear to be how you are, you’re more drawn to those type of people,” she explained. “I gotta take a step back a figure out how this works for me.”

Roman’s revelation that she wouldn’t allow Jazz’s girlfriend to attend her graduation ceremony or Thanksgiving hit a nerve. Burruss was shocked when Roman doubled down on her decision, explaining that the six month relationship was too new for her to feel comfortable sharing such a major family moment.
“I’ve been here your entire life,” the Basketball Wives alum said firmly. “So, I don’t know if sharing this moment and me trying to adapt and make you comfortable in a situation I’m uncomfortable in makes sense. So, she cannot come, and I stand 10 toes down.”
Burruss challenged her with the reminder that she’s not the one graduating, only for Roman to sharply respond, “I’m not going to make myself feel uncomfortable in any phase of my life. I am 55 years old. I’m not doing it. And what I say about this moment is this girl just f**king got here.” She added, “I don’t care who feel a certain type of way about it.”
The 55-year-old’s explanation didn’t sit well with viewers. Following the sit-down, social media critics accused Roman of hiding behind “mental health” to justify intolerance. Some even dubbed her “out of touch” with today’s times.
“Tami doesn’t realize her perspective is self centered. It’s completely unintentional but the harm is there. The double standard is so obvious,” one person commented on YouTube, as another said, “Tammy daughter is grown. You can’t dictate who can come and not come to her graduation. The joyous occasion is not about you and your comfortability but your daughters achievement.”
On the other side, some agreed with Roman. “While I don’t exactly agree w/ Tami’s outlook, I totally understand her POV,” wrote a third person. A fourth added, “Baby!!!!! Tami is on IT!!!!! I feel the same way about these folks that be coming into our kids/nieces/nephews’ lives…….We be knowing!!!!!”
