Kendrick Lamar‘s Super Bowl halftime performance went down last night (Feb. 10), and the reactions are continuing to roll in. While fans are still breaking down everything that happened on the stage, Stephen A. Smith offered his review of the show, which included a surprise appearance from tennis icon Serena Williams that shocked the world.
Shannon Sharpe provided context for his cohosts, explaining, “Everyone knows her and Drake were together at one point in time. It seems like everybody wanted to get their lick back on Drake.”
Smith wasn’t too amused, as he examined the situation by putting himself in it. “If I’m married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his a**,” he said. “‘Cause clearly you don’t belong with me. What you worried about him for and you’re with me? Bye!”
Ryan Clark chimed in with his banter, pointing out that he may think differently if his wife was one of the most iconic athletes of all time. “If you with Serena Williams, you gon’ be a kept man anyway,” he quipped. “Don’t start that, you ain’t gon’ run the house.”
Williams hit the field with Kendrick during “Not Like Us,” his Drake diss track where K. Dot also raps: “From Alondra down to Central, n**ga better not speak on Serena.” The Grand Slam champion is very fond of the scathing record, as she previously declared it was the “hit of the summer.” Also, while hosting the 2024 Espys, she joked, “And if I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us—not a single one of us, not even me—should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar,” as “Not Like Us” played in the venue.
While many X users found Smith’s take funny, others explained why his opinion may have missed the mark due to additional details that weren’t mentioned during their conversation. “I could understand that outlook with no context… but when you add the fact Drake randomly diss her husband and her, then you get what you seen at the Super Bowl,” one person typed. The person is referring to Drake’s bars about Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian.
“If you insult my husband on record, I’m C walking all over your demise. Please. STFU,” another user added.

Kendrick’s halftime performance was an ode to his latest album GNX as he prepares for his upcoming Grand National stadium tour. Not only will SZA will be joining him on the trek, the TDE songstress also accompanied him last night as they performed “luther” and “All The Stars” together. Other songs in his setlist included “wacced out murals,” an unreleased track allegedly named “Bodies,” a DAMN medley, and “tv off.” Revisit the performance above.
