Sisqo Reacts To Cynthia Erivo’s “Thong Song” Praise: “I Was Both Humbled And Pleasantly Surprised”

Cynthia Erivo‘s thoughts on Sisqo‘s “Thong Song” went viral, and now, the beloved crooner is reacting to the comical praise.

“Let me find out they been talking about the Dragon on the interwebs and in these streets,” the Dru Hill front man stated before playing footage of Erivo discussing the record.

“Why do you need to sing like this when singing about a thong?” she quipped when praising his vocal performance on the 1999 classic. “The whole end section of this song is so unnecessary. There’s a key change. There’s a whole praise break at some point in this with his voice. It’s ridiculous. You don’t need to sing like that, and he does. He’s just enjoying himself, and the voice is doing what it’s meant to be doing. Fast forward to the very end and turn it up!”

She continued, “You can’t tell me that that’s not a good vocal because it is a good vocal. That’s a brilliant vocal for a song about a thong […] I just love how he uses his voice for something that you wouldn’t expect a voice to be used for. Now, are there other performances of Sisqo’s that warrant this? Probably, but I just was like this was the one that didn’t need him to do that, and yet he did. Hats off to you, Sisqo.”

Sisqo spent most of his reaction video laughing before stating, “You gotta love it.” He even applauded Erivo’s “perfect pitch,” adding, “Yeah, straight from church.”

“Much love to Cynthia Erivo,” he later expressed. Sisqo, in turn, praised Erivo’s many talents.

He recalled, “Man, I’ve been following Cynthia. She’s a superb vocalist. Superb actress. I first saw her in ‘Bad Times at the El Royale’ [a 2018 horror-thriller film]. She was singing in that movie. Usually I hate singing in a movie unless I know I’m going to [see] a musical […] She’s also in ‘Wicked‘ with another incredible vocalist, Ariana Grande and for me to respect her as a vocalist and an actor, and for her to shout out with these accolades, I was both humbled and pleasantly surprised.”
