‘Sinners’ Returning To IMAX For One Week Due To Popular Demand

Ryan Coogler‘s Sinners is back in IMAX 70mm by popular demand — but only for one week.

The announcement was made on Thursday (May 1) and tickets are now on sale for the limited screenings, which will take place from May 15-21 across nine IMAX 70mm theaters nationwide. Warner Bros. credits “overwhelming popular and critical response” as the catalyst behind the re-release.

Audiences have spoken and we listened. If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible larger-than-life format, it’s Sinners,” said Warner Bros. Pictures president of global distribution Jeff Goldstein in a statement. “Ryan has delivered a film that has been embraced by fans who appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating a film for this screen-filling format and we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to see it — or see it again — in 70mm IMAX.”

It’s unclear if tickets are completely sold out, but fans have reported error messages popping up on both AMC and Fandango.

The thrilling cinematic masterpiece debuted at No. 1 at the box office, marking the biggest debut for an original film since 2019. As of April 27, Variety reported that Sinners grossed $122.5 million domestically and $161.6 million globally in comparison to its $90 million production budget. IMAX accounted for 20% of its revenue opening weekend.

The film centers around twins Smoke and Stack — played by Michael B. Jordan — who try to start over in their hometown only to conjure up a dark force that threatens their second chance. When explaining why it’s not just a horror film, the acclaimed actor explained to VIBE, “You find yourself laughing, you know what I’m saying? You find yourself crying, you’re jumping because you’re scared and the music element to it is amazing.”

The film also stars Miles Caton in his acting debut, Wumni Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, and Jack O’Connell.
