‘Sinners’ Makes History With 16 Oscar Nominations
That Sinners reign just won’t let up!
Ryan Coogler‘s box office hit has earned 16 Oscar nominations, making it the first film to do so in Academy Awards history. The previous record was held by 1950’s All About Eve, 1997’s Titanic, and 2016’s La La Land, which all garnered 14 nominations.
The film and cast received nods in a plethora of categories. Michael B. Jordan is up for Best Actor. Delroy Lindo is up for Best Supporting Actor, his first Oscar nomination. Wunmi Mosaku also received her first Academy Award nomination and could win the Best Supporting Actress category. Coogler has been nominated for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. The Miles Canton–performed “I Lied To You” — co-produced and written by Raphael Saadiq and Ludwig Göransson — is up for Best Original Song.
Aside from Best Director, Best Picture, and Original Screenplay, One Battle After Another — which also amassed double-digit nominations (13) — will be a contender in the Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, Best Original Score, and the new Best Casting categories. Teyana Taylor will also be among the nominees for Best Supporting Actress alongside Mosaku.
As you know, making history is nothing new for Coogler’s Sinners. Since its 2025 release, it has made box-office history as the highest-grossing original film in the last 15 years after surpassing $279 million domestically and $368 million worldwide. The last top original movie was 2010’s Inception and 2009’s Avatar. Sinners is also among the highest-grossing horror films of all time.
