Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ Takes Home ‘Cinematic And Box Office Achievement’ Golden Globe

Ryan Coogler‘s Sinners has finally picked up a major accolade. The cast and production team of the hit film took home the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award at the 83rd Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday night (Jan. 11).

“I just want to thank the audience for showing up. It means the world. This movie was made by hundreds of people,” Coogler shared during the group’s acceptance speech. “We don’t always, when we work in the film business, wear tuxedos and get glammed out. It’s usually a grind. We were wearing performance fishing gear, and we were in the swamps.

“It was an honor on this movie to know that it was getting a theatrical release. We would remind people every day, in the dog days of summer in New Orleans — we would say, ‘Hey, big movie. People are going to see this — big theater.’ We didn’t know that they [the audience] would show up, and we thank them that they did.”

It’s great to see Coogler’s film win another major honor. Earlier in the evening, Ludwig Göransson took home a Globe for the Best Original Score category. The film received seven Golden Globe nominations.

Last week, Sinners took home a plethora of awards at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Singer-actor Miles Canton won the Best Young Performer category; casting director Francine Maisler took home Best Casting and Ensemble; Ludwig Göransson won Best Score; and Ryan Coogler received an award for Best Original Screenplay.
