Ryan Coogler Confirms Whether Or Not A ‘Sinners’ Sequel Is In The Works

Sorry, Sinners fans, but Ryan Coogler has confirmed that our dreams of a sequel to the Michael B. Jordan-led film isn’t happening.

In a conversation with EBONY from April, Coogler revealed that he has no plans to do a sequel or prequel to his latest critically-acclaimed cinematic masterpiece.

“I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that,” he confessed. “I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique.”

Coogler continued, “I wanted the movie to feel like a full meal: your appetizers, starters, entrees and desserts, I wanted all of it there. I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention.”

Fans have been demanding a prequel instead of a sequel, in an effort to get answers to lingering questions from the original film like how Smoke and Annie fell in love or what really went down with the twins in Chicago.

Per Variety, Sinners earned $350 million at the global box office, making it one of the top 10 highest-grossing movies of the year.

The film follows identical twin brothers Smoke and Stack, both played by Michael B. Jordan, as they return to their Mississippi home to open a juke joint with their younger cousin (Miles Caton) until they find themselves battling with a siege of blood-thirsty vampires.
