‘Power Book II: Ghost’ To End After Four Seasons

One door closes while another opens as STARZ announces that the fourth season of Power Book II: Ghost will be its last. This comes on the heels of the network announcing that a fourth Power spinoff is currently in development.

Season four of the hit drama series will be split into two parts: the first installment premieres on June 7 and the second installment debuts on Sept. 6. The season four premiere coincides with the 10th anniversary of Power‘s debut on STARZ.

“This explosive season of Ghost is a fitting crescendo in a decade of an immensely popular franchise – fans will not be disappointed,” said Kathryn Busby, President of Programming for STARZ, in a statement. “While this marks the conclusion of one chapter, our commitment to the Power universe endures with more compelling storytelling on the horizon.”

According to Deadline, the cancellation of Ghost “was prefaced by STARZ CEO Jeffrey Hirsh this week when he revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive.”

Hirsh explained, “You look at the [Power] map and say, ‘OK, if I take one of those characters out and spin one of those out, I can bring that on to replace the Power show at half the cost.’ […] And I’m really not losing anything in terms of acquisition costs and subscriber viewership, because we know what those demos want.”

Season four of Ghost centers around the idea that it’s Tariq St. Patrick and Brayden Weston against the world. With the newly formed alliances, both men must infiltrate the game yet again while ensuring that what happened at the end of season three doesn’t repeat itself. However, once Brayden begins flirting with a new, reckless lifestyle, Tariq questions if he can make it to the top with his partner-in-crime.

Meanwhile, Monet may have met her match as Effie attempts to secure a legit future and plans her exit out of the game. Davis is still reeling over his brother’s death, recent suspension, and pending disbarment while he delves headfirst into the criminal side of his business. Diana and Dru question their roles in the family business as Cane seizes a chance at a promotion within Noma’s network.

While she finds her footing establishing her enterprise in the U.S., she struggles to keep watch over her daughter, Anya, who now have the attention of Tariq and Brayden. For Tariq, he must reconcile with his past, as the fate of his future hangs in limbo.
