Plies Drops Lawsuit Against Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, And Cardi B

Plies has filed a motion to dismiss his copyright lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and Cardi B.

The Florida-based rapper’s motion was obtained by Billboard, who reported that Plies is dropping the case “without prejudice,” which signifies he could opt to refile his suit if he changes his mind.

The entertainer’s initial suit accused the three women and Soulja Boy of ripping off his track “Me & My Goons” with the release of 2024’s “Wanna Be.” As previously stated, the basis of the lawsuit claims that the ladies’ song and Soulja’s “Pretty Boy Swag” use what Plies details as the “infrared countdown beat.”

Soulja Boy would clap back at Plies’ claims that he bit his music to create his own. The YouTuber even claimed that the 48-year-old was looking for a way to reach for attention.

“‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is not your [beat],” Soulja asserted in a video in November 2024. “So you wanna wait 10 years to try to sue a ni**a for a beat? That is not your beat, crazy man… What the f**k is wrong with you, Plies? You need to change your name to ‘Lies,’ ’cause you a muthaf**kin’ liar… You know that ain’t your muthaf**kin’ beat, bro,” he added. “That beat is all original music. You only could sue somebody if they sample your song and don’t get it cleared. That is not a sample, bro.”

“[The songs] don’t sound nothing alike… That’s some police sh*t. You trying to sue a ni**a? I thought you was gangsta. I thought you was a goon… You gonna go snitch to the white man: ‘He stole my beat!’ Police-a** ni**a, you a snitch,” he added in the unhinged rant.

It should be noted that a couple of songs in the late 2000s carried a similar cadence in beat to Plies’ “Me & My Goons” and Soulja’s “Pretty Boy Swag.” One track in particular even predated both songs altogether.

Producer LilJujuMadeDaBeat took to social media to speak against legal action and brought up Lil Wil‘s 2007 song “My Dougie,” saying that the track came before Plies’ “Me & My Goons” released in 2008. “My Dougie” uses the “infrared countdown beat” and was produced by Big E, who LilJujuMadeDaBeat states is credited on “Wanna Be.”

“For the Record ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is a remake of ‘My Dougie‘ as well. Soulja Boy is on the ‘My Dougie’ Remix. ‘Me & My Goons’ literally not even the single for that Plies album… Nitti Beatz owns all these songs. Plies just trynna get some money lol,” he said.
