North Carolina Man Killed Hours After Wedding In Alleged Road Rage Shooting

A man in North Carolina is dead hours after his wedding in a suspected incidence of road rage. According to ABC7, Tyrek Burton, 37, was gunned down in front of his family at Barber Park Events Center. Burton was driving to the reception venue after briefly leaving, and in the process allegedly cut off another driver, which his sister alludes to as the motivation behind the murder.

“He made a U-turn and I guess didn’t see somebody. Cut them off and that person followed him back to the park,” shared Brittany Burton with the news outlet. “There are cameras. This was at a public park and there were multiple eyewitnesses including one of his daughters and it was done in front of his wife.”

A statement from the Greensboro Police Department confirmed on Oct. 12, 2024, law enforcement responded to the location to investigate a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an injured man in the parking area. Despite life-saving efforts, Burton died of his injuries that night.

“I demand justice. I demand it, and I don’t want to wait years for it. He don’t deserve what he got. He waited 13 years to get his bride. As soon as he get his bride, he couldn’t even take her home. It’s just not fair,” shared the victim’s mother Carolyn Burton with WLBT3.

The family has launched a GoFundMe to provide financial assistance to Burton’s bride and their four daughters. They had been together for 16 years before saying “I do.” As of Friday morning (Oct. 25), the fundraiser had collected $13,043 of a $25,000 goal.

“Unexpected losses can cause immense stress and pressure on families. Your donation will help cover expenses and provide support for Tyrek’s family during this difficult time. Please help us ensure that his family receives the care they need,” details the fundraising campaign.

The shooter, who has not yet been identified, was named “Donkey Of The Day” by Charlamagne Tha God on The Breakfast Club last Friday as the radio host issued a “call to action.”

“I want to say R.I.P. to Tyreke Burton,” he began before sharing a news report of the tragedy.
