NBA YoungBoy Pleads Guilty In Utah Prescription Drug Fraud Case
NBA YoungBoy has pleaded guilty to his part in a large-scale prescription drug fraud ring. On Monday (Nov. 18), the 25-year-old rapper entered a Logan City courtroom where he met with District Judge Spencer Walsh about the fraud ring that NBA operated out of his multi-million dollar home in Huntsville.
He was originally hit with 46 charges related to the accusations by the Logan District Court. According to ABC4 Utah, the Baton Rouge native “posed as a doctor and tried to dupe various pharmacies into selling him cough syrup with codeine.”
The artist, whose legal name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree felony identity fraud, two counts of third-degree felony forgery, and six counts of misdemeanor unlawful pharmacy conduct. Gaulden entered a “no contest” plea to the remaining charges, according to the outlet.
“This is somewhat of a unique case where there have been multiple jurisdictions involved both multiple jurisdictions in the federal and the state systems,” said state prosecutor Ronnie Keller. “This is just part really a smaller cog and the bigger wheel of ultimately seeking justice.”
Gaulden will not have to serve time in Utah State Prison as part of the plea deal. His felony charges were reduced to Class A Misdemeanors and he was ordered to pay a $25,000 fine. However, the “Make No Sense” rapper will serve 27 months in federal prison for related charges in a federal case. After that, he will then be placed on five years of federal supervised probation.
This situation is only the latest chapter in YoungBoy’s legal troubles, as he was also sentenced back in September in the federal gun case he’s been battling for more than four years. He pleaded guilty to illegal firearms possession as a convicted felon in August, a charge stemming from a 2020 incident in which he was one of 16 people arrested at a music video shoot in Louisiana.
