Naomi Osaka Announces Split From Cordae, Declares There’s “No Bad Blood”
Naomi Osaka and rapper Cordae have officially ended their relationship after nearly five years together.
On Monday (Jan. 6), Osaka, 27, confirmed the split in an Instagram Story, emphasizing there’s “no bad blood” between them. She also took time to praise their co-parenting of their one-year-old daughter, Shai.
“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship,” she wrote. “No Bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad. Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together heart emoji].”
Osaka and The Crossroads rapper began dating in 2019. See the breakup announcement below.
In GQ‘s 2021 Modern Love issue, the couple appeared on the cover where Cordae spoke on his respect for their relationship.
“We were dating for almost a year before people knew about us. So we kind of move very reclusively,” he spoke of their once-romance. “We don’t really post intimate moments, because I feel as though they’re sacred. A relationship is really a sacred thing.”
A year prior, Naomi shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to Cordae as he turned 23.
“I always feel so lucky to be in your life and to be continuously learning from you,” she said in the since-deleted post. “I‘m so grateful that I can talk to you about anything and ask for advice (cause you know I need all the help I can get lol). I love that you lay down and wait for me to go to sleep before you go record. Etc because the list goes on forever… I hope you’re having the best birthday, I’m sad I can’t be there but I’ll make it up to you. Happy 23rd, I love you @cordae.”
Just last month, Naomi opened up to InStyle about co-parenting with Cordae, which she said was “easygoing.”
“We built a really good foundation,” she told the outlet. “I don’t know if it’s because he’s just an easygoing guy, but I think we just respect each other’s opinions. And if we disagree on something, we talk it out. At the end of the day, we both want what’s best for Shai.”
The two welcomed their babygirl last year after sharing that they were expecting in January. At the time, Osaka shared a photo of her ultrasound with the caption, “Can’t wait to get back on the court but here’s a little life update for 2023.”
