Marlon Wayans Flexes On DJ Vlad As ‘Club Shay Shay’ Interview Hits 1.8M Views
Following Marlon Wayans‘ Club Shay Shay interview with Shannon Sharpe, the actor, producer and comedian took to his socials on Thursday (Sept. 5) to rub his viral numbers in DJ Vlad‘s face.
“Someone once laughed at a ‘Marlon Wayans’ 1.4 million views in 24 hours. That I could only pull 300k views,” he wrote referencing Vlad declining to interview him for $40,000 prior. “I guess the juice is worth the squeeze.”
As of publication, Wayans’ episode has garnered 1.8 million views and counting.
Last month, the popular media personality revealed that the White Chicks actor requested $40,000 to appear on his platform and 30 percent of all future revenue. As fans debated about the hefty request, one person commented that the price wasn’t that crazy.
“See, I tried to tell him I was giving him a deal… oh well,” Wayans responded to the fan before Vlad chimed in with his own post on the matter.
“Marlon Wayans found someone with 200 followers to agree with him. LOL,” he wrote on X at the time. “Nobody on earth is going to pay Marlon $40K for an interview when he gets 100k-300k views on any platform he interviews on. This guy is really delusional.”
The two then had a heated exchange online where Wayans called Vlad “unprofessional” and called him out for trying to turn his Black peers against him.
“You been teetering on disrespect and I’ve been a gentleman up until this point. This was tactless, unprofessional and petty. You out here trying to tear down a king. You trying to instigate beef within my community and peers. It won’t happen fella. I’m loved,” said Wayans. “I’m worth whatever i say. People like you don’t make or break me champ. I’m self made. I go where i choose. I don’t like your tactics. I’ve been a gentleman. I didn’t express my grievances with other people. You trying to turn other Black men in my field on me. Asking them about my money?”
He added, “So yes this has become about race. You trying to turn us into crabs in a barrel. I see your angle now. I watched you play your hand. You want us to talk sh*t, beef and tear each other down while you sit back and make money. Meanwhile you don’t even show your face.”
Vlad eventually apologized on an episode of his show with DJ Akademiks on Aug. 26.
“Marlon, I apologize for jumping out the window the way I did. You didn’t really deserve it cause honestly, at the end of the day, it was just a business negotiation. I could have kept it to myself; I overdid it,” he said. “At one point, maybe we could work something out because I do actually respect you. That was the reason I approached you in the first place, you know what I mean, and I just hoped that you would see what I have done over these years.”
He also admitted that his feelings were hurt by Wayans, whom he felt didn’t respect his platform.
Despite showing remorse, Wayans didn’t acknowledge the apology and took to his socials on Aug. 21 to further promote his comedy tour and his appearance on Club Shay Shay — while vowing to “do everyone’s else’s platforms” except Vlad’s.
The Wild Child Tour kicks off Sept. 14 in Las Vegas before concluding in Michigan on Nov. 21. Tickets are available here.
