Lizzo Blames Fame For Why She Doesn’t Have “Many” Friends

Lizzo has a very small inner circle and there’s good reason for that.
During a recent interview with Ziwe, the “Good As Hell” singer explained that she doesn’t have many friends because of how “weird” things became after she garnered fame.
“I don’t have any friends,” Lizzo said while laughing nervously. “I used to have so many friends, but when you get famous, it gets really weird. Everyone makes it weird for famous people. I’m still a normal person.”
When explaining fame, she admitted, “You’re still you. Everything around you changes. That’s fame in a nutshell and people change, too. It’s heartbreaking.” She then issued an “anti-fame PSA.”

“Don’t be famous,” Lizzo quipped. “I know you guys want to to be, and I know you want to go online, go viral, get your money, and be rich. Don’t be famous. Rich and famous are not the same thing. Now, if you’re an artist, do your art, just being famous? You can’t leave. It never ends.”
Earlier in the segment, Ziwe asked Lizzo how many Black friends she had. She replied, matter of factly, “All my friends are Black.” When asked how many of them are plus-size, Lizzo pondered before continuing, “I have thick Black friends […] This is crazy because I’m thinking of two right now.”
One of Lizzo’s closest friends is SZA. “We’ve just always been friends, and it’s a sacred space for me in this industry,” Lizzo told Billboard of their close bond.

The two kindred spirits almost started a rock band together. “We got this little period of time where we were just linking up in the studio, and eating pasta and drinking. This one particular night, mind you, we were gonna start a rock band, called Pu**y Lasers,” she explained.
While the group never fully came to fruition, it did result in “F2F,” which landed on SZA’s chart-topping LP, SOS.
