Kid Cudi Removes M.I.A. From Tour Following Controversial Remarks
Kid Cudi has officially dropped M.I.A. from his Rebel Ragers Tour, citing the artist’s recent ‘offensive remarks’ as the reason for her dismissal.
Kid Cudi has officially parted ways with M.I.A. on his ongoing Rebel Ragers Tour. The decision follows a series of controversial statements made by the rapper during her recent stint as the tour’s opening act.
The tension reached a breaking point during a May 2 performance at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas. According to reports, M.I.A. addressed the audience regarding her public perception, stating, “I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.” She further alienated segments of the crowd by refusing to perform her track “Illegal,” claiming, “there’s probably one in the crowd.”
Following an influx of complaints from fans, Kid Cudi took to social media on Monday to announce that M.I.A. would no longer be part of the tour’s remaining dates. The “Day ‘n’ Nite” artist emphasized that he had previously established clear expectations with her management team regarding the tone of the performances.
“TOUR UPDATE: M.I.A is no longer on this tour,” Kid Cudi wrote on social media. “I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, cuz I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood.”
Cudi expressed his frustration with the situation, noting that the feedback from his fanbase was impossible to ignore. “After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing, and I wont have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase. Thank you for understanding. Rager.”
M.I.A., who recently released her latest album M.I.7, has yet to issue a formal response to her removal from the tour. The artist has become increasingly known for her polarizing political stances in recent years, ranging from her vocal support of Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election to her promotion of anti-vaccine misinformation and anti-5G apparel.
The Rebel Ragers Tour is scheduled to continue its run in Atlanta this Wednesday, with organizers expected to announce a replacement opening act shortly.
