Jeezy Shares Candid Feelings About His Divorce From Jeannie Mai

It’s officially been a year since Jay “Jeezy” Jenkins and Jeannie Mai finalized their divorce after two and a half years of marriage and welcoming their daughter, Monaco.
Following months of public legal strife with Mai, the rapper sat down with The Breakfast Club this week, where he shared his candid thoughts on life after marriage.
“I tell myself this every day, ‘Man, this is amazing,’” he affirmed. “I don’t got no enemies… no issues, I don’t want no enemies or issues, I just want peace, joy, and freedom. I love my freedom. Freedom is everything. Especially when you’re talking about art, culture — you’re talking your mind… This is the season of me. I’m putting myself first at all costs.”
That “freedom,” however, didn’t come peacefully — it came with a few court dates and harrowing headlines.
Just this past May, Jeezy was in hot water over accusations that he didn’t hold up his end of their divorce agreement, which could have potentially led to jail time if he continued to fail to comply. According to In Touch Weekly, a judge determined that he “willfully failed” to transfer the title of a 2021 Range Rover over to Jeannie. Additionally, Jeezy attempted to have Mai pay their $20,000 legal bill, to which the judge denied the motion.
Jeannie previously accused the “Put On” rapper of skipping out on childcare payments, delaying a $500,000 deposit for their daughter, and not covering four months of rent like he allegedly agreed to. Jeezy countered her claims, saying some of the lease paperwork she provided seemed sketchy to his team and blamed DMV delays. He even noted an “act of God” for why one of the cars hadn’t been properly transferred, while also claiming she was out to “embarrass, humiliate, and disparage” him by letting their business spill into the public court of opinion.
Mai opened up about the ongoing divorce while visiting The Jennifer Hudson show last year. She gave an update on her wellbeing since the news broke, which she said “gutted” her.
“I think I’m doing better now,” Mai said at the time. “At the time, when I found out at the same time as the rest of the world that my marriage was ending in divorce, I was gutted. Today, it’s about picking up the pieces. It’s about discovering me and being a mom to the best blessing in my life, my little girl.”
Mai added, “Even though this year I met the most broken version of me, I also met the strongest version of me today.”
