Iman Shumpert Pettily Compliments Teyana Taylor’s 2024 Met Gala Look On Social Media
Iman Shumpert complimented his soon-to-be ex wife, Teyana Taylor, after she stunned the 2024 Met Gala. Although the former NBA champ didn’t attend the invite-only event this year, he made sure to admire the mother of his children out loud — although his comment came off jokingly petty.
“Yeah you ate…but I ain’t tellin you that sh*t [laughing emoji],” he wrote on X during the livestreamed event. As he saw no harm in the post, others began calling him a “hater” and showing disdain for the perceived backhanded compliment.
“Lol it was a cute way to say she kilt it,” he explained in another X post. “But people don’t laugh enough in life [halo emoji].”
The “Rose in Harlem” artist walked the garden-themed carpet with a platinum blonde up-do, and a crimson Burlesque gown detailed with flowers and a high-split.
She accessorized her look with David Yurman jewelry, which included large gold dangling earrings and an oversized gold bracelet.
This year’s theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” with the dress code: “The Garden of Time.”
Taylor filed for divorce from Shumpert in January 2023, before officially announcing their separation months after in September.
According to court documents, Taylor accused Shumpert of “treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage” and “being extremely emotionally and mentally abusive towards her.” She also declared that their marriage is “irretrievably broken.”
The multi-hyphenated star also added that as her stardom grew, she “began to intentionally dim her light for her husband to try to have a harmonious and peaceful marriage.” Taylor detailed that she “turned down acting roles and recording opportunities” because he “did not want her to work.” The former Brooklyn Nets player reportedly “remained in an insecure state as his NBA career continued to wind down.”
In addition, Shumpert was accused of cheating on her multiple times and fleeing the scene of a car crash in her Rolls Royce to avoid a second DUI.
The Harlemite issued an official statement regarding her impending divorce in November of last year.
“I mind my business, don’t bother nobody & y’all know I’ve never played about my children, family, & our privacy,” she wrote on Instagram. “I have not spoken on this private matter to any media outlets or blogs etc. So everyone claiming ‘Teyana said’ didn’t get any statements directly from ME. It is very heartbreaking that someone would take out the time to make such a private matter public for the world to see. However, protecting my family is one thing I’ve ALWAYS done & for my children, I will continue to do.”
“Please if y’all love y’all play nieces, Junie & Rue, like y’all have shown, please allow myself & my family some privacy to resolve this matter in peace. Love y’all,” she added.
Shumpert’s attorney also released a statement after the divorce news broke.
“Mr. Shumpert hopes parties and counsel can work toward a fair resolution, keeping the best interests of the children of paramount concern,” it read.
Taylor is seeking primary physical custody, joint legal custody, and child support. They share two daughters, Iman Tayla, also known as Junie, 8, and Rue Rose, 3.
