Fyre Festival 2 Postponed Just Weeks Ahead Of Event, Social Media Reacts

Fyre Festival dominated headlines back in spring 2017 after it turned out to be a fraudulent music festival that left thousands of attendees stranded in the Bahamas. The catastrophic fest was set to make a comeback in 2025, but history is repeating itself as Fyre Fest part 2 has now been postponed just weeks ahead of its scheduled date.
On April 17, ABC News confirmed Fyre Fest organizers are delaying the event with no new date set, and USA Today reported the organizers are looking for a new location. The event was scheduled to take place in Mexico from May 30 to June 2 and was being advertised under the slogan “FYRE Festival 2 is real,” with tickets starting at $1,400.
A message sent to a ticket holder reportedly said, “The event has been postponed and a new date will be announced. We have issued you a refund. Once the new date is announced, at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule.”
As of publication, there has been no official announcement made on any of the event’s official social media pages, but there is an Instagram story currently posted promoting a “Fyre 2 Is Real” hoodie.
As expected, the news made its rounds on social media and drummed up flashbacks of when the first ordeal went down nearly eight years ago. Although critiques towards cofounder Billy McFarland were plentiful, a majority of the reactions resorted to victim blaming. Many people were pointing out how McFarland could possibly be trusted after being convicted of wire fraud, with one viral tweet reading, “He should absolutely get to keep your money this time if u gave it to him.”
“Fyre Festival is the perfect music festival because you don’t have to actually go to it,” another person quipped.
Many people recalled the popular documentary that should have given this year’s ticket holders plenty of reasons to be skeptical. “You mean you guys watched the whole documentary and then after all that thought ‘This is something/someone I could invest in’ damn,” one user sarcastically wrote on X as another added, “Dude at this point just start promoting the documentary.” Another person foreshadowed the announcement by commenting two weeks ago, “I might get tickets just to be in the Netflix doc.”
In 2019, Netflix released FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, which dove deep into the twisted series of events that led up to the “island getaway-turned disaster.”

The publicity garnered around Fyre Festival was heightened because its original iteration was heavily backed by Ja Rule. He partnered with McFarland and has since distanced himself from the scam. When he heard of Fyre’s 2025 plans, he said last month, “Oh Lord? No, he isn’t!… I’m not going to be there, but cheers!”
