E-40 Puts On For The Bay With 2024 BET Hip Hop Awards Performance

E-40 took the crowd on a voyage throughout his illustrious discography during his performance at the BET Hip Hop Awards 2024.

Held at the vibrant Drai’s Beachclub and Nightclub in Las Vegas, the show was just short of a home-game for the veteran, who serenaded the audience with his distinct Bay Area sound and unique slang while running through a mix of signature cuts and fan favorites.

E-40 gave both the live audience and viewers at home a masterclass in his musical style, beginning with his opening number, his 2014 single “Choices (Yup),” which quickly led to a call-and-response chant between the emcee and those in attendance.

With the crowd at a simmer, the rap vet turned the energy up with his guest verse on Lil Jon’s 2006 hit, “Snap Yo Fingers,” before launching into Big Sean’s breakup anthem, “I Don’t F**k With You,” and reeling off bars from that record, as well.

To close out his performance, 40 Water ended things off with a bit of hyphy in the form of his classic tune, “Tell Me When To Go,” garnering cheers and applause as he continued to entertain the audience and viewers at home with his undeniable charisma and stage presence.

E-40’s BET Hip Hop Awards performance is a continuation of the victory lap he’s been on in recent years, as the elder statesman and vanguard has been receiving his flowers as a musical legend and cultural ambassador in The Bay and beyond.

Last year, the 56-year-old was honored with his own street in his hometown of Vallejo, Ca., which was named “E-40 Way.” The block replaced Magazine Street, the block where E-40 grew up at and helped immortalize through his music.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to have my childhood street in Vallejo named after me,” the rapper wrote on his Instagram while celebrating the occasion. “Don’t ever give up on your dreams! Thank you to the @CityofVallejo.”

In addition, E-40 was also given the key to the city of Vallejo, becoming the second person in the city’s history to ever receive that honor.
