Diddy’s Prison Etiquette Celebrated By This High-Profile Inmate

Diddy is apparently a wonderful roommate, according to Sam Bankman-Fried. The once mighty crypto executive appeared in a March 6 interview with right-wing pundit Tucker Carlson, where he spoke about being convicted of fraud.

Referencing the New York Times article that stated that Bankman-Fried and Sean Combs were “cellmates” in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, Carlson asked the California native how living with the Bad Boy Records founder had been in their “dormitory-style room.” The ex-FTX CEO admitted that he is living with Combs and, almost shockingly, Puffy was actually a nice guy—at least from what he sees in prison.

“It’s, I don’t know, he’s been kind. I’ve made some friends. It’s a weird environment. It’s sort of a combination of a few other high-profile cases and then a lot of ex-gangsters—or alleged ex-gangsters,” the crypto criminal expressed. “You know, obviously I’ve only seen one piece of him, which is Diddy in prison, and he’s been kind to people in the unit, he’s been kind to me.

“It’s also a position no one wants to be in. Obviously, it’s kind of a soul-crushing place for the world in general. And what we see are just the people that are around us on the inside rather than who we are on the outside.”

The talking head then probed more about how other inmates felt about seeing “two of the most famous prisoners in the world” in their unit. Sam spoke of two vantage points in that moment, one detailing that of the inmates who were regular citizens, and the perspective from people who “once had power”—like himself and Diddy.

“Well, it’s a really interesting question and, of course, some of them think, ‘Wow, this is a big opportunity to meet people they wouldn’t otherwise get to meet,’” Bankman-Fried recalled. “It makes sense from their perspective but, boy, that is not how I think about prison. Laughing’s all you can do sometimes. There’s no better alternative.”

Combs currently remains behind bars, where he will stay until his trial on May 5 for sex trafficking and assault. Sam Bankman-Fried is serving 25 years in jail for fraud and other related crimes.
