Da’Vine Joy Randolph Wins Best Supporting Actress At 2024 Oscars

Da’Vine Joy Randolph got her just due after a near-decade career. The 37-year-old actress won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at the 2024 Academy Awards.

She was honored for her role as Mary Lamb in the August 2023 film The Holdovers. It marked her first Oscar nomination and first time winning at the illustrious award show.

Randolph offered a tearful speech onstage, reflecting on the times when she did not believe in herself but was pushed by the people around her, especially her mother. She initially wanted to be a singer, but her mother encouraged her to go into acting. “God is so good. God is so good,” she said. “For so long I always wanted to be different, and now I realize I just get to be myself and I thank you for seeing me.” She even thanked her publicist, though she humorously acknowledged that she was told not to do that.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph has been on a tear when it comes to award shows. She won Best Supporting Actress at the Astra Film Awards, British Academy Film Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Georgia Film Critics Association, Independent Spirit Awards, and many more award shows, all for her role in The Holdovers.

Randolph got her start on Broadway, playing Ode Mae Brown in Ghost in 2012. From there, she appeared in The Angriest Man In Brooklyn, Dolemite Is My Name, Trolls World Tour, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, and multiple other films. She is set to appear in Shadow Force and Bride Hard, both of which are currently in post-production.
