Damon Dash Describes His New Artist Nicky Licky As The “White Lesbian Aaliyah”

Dame Dash recently had a candid sit-down with The Art of Dialogue where he spoke on his new supergroup called Freeway x The Black Guns. The genre-bending collective includes himself, Freeway, guitarist Tash Neal and drummer Ali Warren. His newcomer artist, Nicky Licky, also works with the group.
As his latest creative venture has garnered curiosity, his comments on Nicky Licky caused much conversation as he compared her to the late Aaliyah.
“She’s like if Aaliyah was white,” Dame said, mid-thought, as he motioned for Nicky to join the conversation. “If Aaliyah was white, she’d be a lesbian — that’s her.”

He went on to praise Nicky’s creative drive, her songwriting, and her behind-the-scenes hustle.
“She helped build my dream,” he added, saying that she played an integral part in producing and shaping the group’s latest music, including their new track “Recession Proof.” He also noted that Nicky (f.k.a. Nicolette) — has solo projects of her own and earned her spot in the band through hard work, not handouts.
As his Aaliyah comment received backlash as a wildly bold, tone-deaf take — it, however, sparked a wave of conversation which may have been the goal.
“He ruined her before she even had a chance because why would you introduce her like that?” wrote one person in Hollywood Unlocked’s comment section. “Omg no offense but please don’t compare someone named Nicky Licky to Babygirl…” said another.
On the flip side, a third person remarked, “I really can’t stand all the Dame Hate… we the only people quick to forget what people did for our culture. If We make American culture like yall say we do. Let’s stop all the hate for all of our contributors to the culture no matter what you think. Dame just telling us how he sees her. He’s not telling you to see it that way!”
As for Dame joining the group instead of his usual place behind-the-scenes, he said he’s stepping into unfamiliar territory and fans will hear him singing on records and playing instruments.
“I’m out of my comfort zone and I’m very vulnerable,” he admitted. “If it’s bad, you can meme it. But if it’s good? They don’t even want to talk about it because it’s too good.”
The supergroup has their single “365” that they are currently pushing. Take a listen below and watch Dame speak on the group — specifically Nicky Licky — above.
