Carmelo Anthony Shares Stevie Wonder Story That Has People Confused

Carmelo Anthony reveals that Stevie Wonder once told him he loves “watching” him play. Wait, huh?

During the latest episode of his 7PM In Brooklyn podcast, Melo recalled the 2011 NBA All-Star Game where he ran into the legend in the locker room. Anthony, who was a player on the New York Knicks at the time, remembered when Wonder embraced him, telling Melo, “I love watching you play.” Rudy Gay, Kazeem Famuyide, and The Kid Mero, all burst out laughing at the admission from Wonder, while Melo’s face remained stoically confused like it was his first time hearing the legend tell him that again.

Towards the end of the story, Melo insists that Kobe Bryant, “Two-Four,” was also a major part of the story, saying, “My man ain’t here to vouch for us… so we gon’ leave that part of the story out of it.” When asked how the admission made him feel, Carmelo remembers looking around at other All-Stars and saying, “Nahhhhhhh, what? He ain’t just say that.”

Melo’s admission left everyone at the 7PM In Brooklyn taping confused, but this isn’t the first time Stevie Wonder’s blindness has been questioned. Shaquille O’Neal previously shared a story regarding the celebrated musician’s impaired vision, and his recollection echoes a sentiment similar to Melo’s. During 2019 episode of Inside the NBA, O’Neal told his castmates about the time he met Wonder, where the artist somehow knew who he was before he could say anything.

“I’m going to tell y’all a Stevie Wonder story, but y’all not gonna believe me,” he expressed. “It’s a true story… We live in a building on Wilshire Boulevard, you park your car and the valets down there.

I’m already in the building and coming through the lobby. Door opens and it’s Stevie Wonder.

“He comes in, says ‘What’s up, Shaq?’ Presses the button, it’s a true story, presses the button, gets off on his floor by himself, goes to his room. I went and called every person I knew and told the story. They didn’t believe me… He got on the elevator was like, ‘What’s up, Shaq, how you doing big dog?’ got out and gone. Yes he did.”
