Cardi B Comes Under Fire For Allegedly “Job Shaming” McDonald’s Employee
Cardi B has come under fire for seemingly making fun of fast food workers while responding to a troll on social media.
On Monday (June 3), Cardi expressed her refusal to conform to industry or societal norms on X, thanking a fan on X for defending her against critics of her “speech patterns.”
This led one user to challenge the Bronx native to “get off twitter and get in the booth,” an order that apparently didn’t go over too well with Cardi, who sarcastically shared her plans to hit the studio according to her schedule.
She then joked that the troll, who appears to be employed at McDonald’s, should go and make her a sandwhich instead of spending his time on social media.
“I’m hopping in the booth after I go to the gym, do this zoom and get my pedi,” Cardi wrote in response. “GET OFF YOUR BREAK AND MAKE ME A CHEESEBURGER.”
While some social media users found Cardi’s quip humorous, others felt the sentiment was demeaning to those who work jobs devoid of the glitz and glamour of that of a celebrity. One critic pointed out that Cardi, a former stripper, was once employed to be objectified by patrons prior to her own rise to fame.
“Convo aside, I hate when celebs act like they been rich all their lives,” the fan wrote, referencing the Invasion of Privacy artist. “Like ‘make me a cheeseburger’ is crazy like you wasn’t bent over for dollar bills every Saturday night couple years ago.”
However, Cardi claimed that she was not making light of the initial troll’s occupation, but was merely giving him a taste of his own medicine. “Is not job shaming babes… he told me to go do my job and I told him to do his,” she responded, seemingly with a hint of sarcasm. “We encouraging each other babes.”
Ironically, Cardi B and husband Offset collaborated with McDonald’s in 2023, as the couple was tapped by the company to be the faces of the fast food giant’s promotional Valentines Day meal. The partnership led to backlash from McDonald’s franchisees, who said the collaboration violated the brand’s “Golden Arch Code.”
