Adam Sandler Reveals How He Got Eminem To Appear In ‘Happy Gilmore 2’

Happy Gilmore 2 boasts a cast loaded with A-list celebrities across music, sports, the film industry, and more. Adam Sandler recently opened up about how he convinced the elusive Eminem to make a cameo appearance in the film.
“I love Eminem. I’m friends with Eminem, but I don’t want to bother the man,” the 58-year-old actor said during an interview on The Dan Patrick Show. “And everybody kept saying, ‘Man, Eminem would be so funny in this part.’ I was like, ‘I don’t want to ruin this guy’s time. He’s hanging out. He’s in Detroit. He’s doing his life making records’.”
Nonetheless, Sandler eventually reached out. “Let me bug Marshall and give him a call and say, ‘Dude, I know it’s a pain in the a**, but it’s pretty funny. You mind shooting out to us for a day?’” he recalled. Fortunately, Slim Shady was happy to oblige, and that was perhaps due to their relationship spanning decades.

“I remember the first time I met [Eminem]. I was at SNL. I wasn’t on the show anymore,” Sandler recounted. “And I was at a table with all my guys and he was the musical guest with [Dr. Dre] and we were at the afterparty, and then Marshall walked by our table and he looked at me and I looked at him like, ‘Oh yeah, that kid’s pretty damn cool.’ And then he goes ‘Bobby Boucher!’ I go, ‘Oh yes, that’s what’s up, Marshall.’ And then we became friendly after that.”
The Detroit rapper played Donald Jr., the son of a fan named Donald who often trolled Sandler’s character. It’s a true “like father, like son” experienced as Marshall Mathers’ character gives Happy Gilmore a hard time, interrupting his golfing to the point where they almost physically fight. “I know a lot about fighting. I’ll bite your leg off,” Donald Jr. says in the film.
The “Lose Yourself” rapper joins fellow musicians Bad Bunny, Post Malone, Cam’ron, and Kid Cudi in the popular sequel available now on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
