A verdict has officially been reached in A$AP Rocky’s gun assault trial. The New York rapper was found not guilty on two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. According to AP News, the decision was made after the jurors deliberated for just three hours.
After the verdict was read, a video shows the courtroom erupting in cheers. Rocky then turns around and hugs a member of his legal team before climbing over a bench to hug Rihanna, his partner and mother of his two young sons.
“Thank y’all for saving my life. Thank y’all for making the right decision,” Rocky told jurors as they walked out, per legal reporter Meghann Cuniff. See the moment below.
The highly publicized trial was held in Los Angeles and consisted of three weeks of testimonies and arguments that ended last Friday (Feb. 14). The charges stemmed from a November 2021 altercation with former friend A$AP Relli, who alleged that Rocky confronted him outside a Hollywood parking garage, threatened him at gunpoint, and shot at him.
“This is not a difficult case,” Deputy District Attorney Paul Przelomiec said in his closing argument last Thursday (Feb. 13). “The question for you to answer in this case boils down to really just one question… And that is did Mr. Mayers, the man at the table, did he use a real gun or did he use a fake gun. Was it a real gun or was it a fake gun? Nothing else is in dispute.”
Rocky’s attorney Joe Tacopina said in his closing arguments that the “Peso” rapper was carrying a prop gun, a claim that was backed by associates like A$AP Twelvyy and A$AP Lou. Tacopina also accused Relli of “destroying evidence” by deleting relevant text messages. Watch the full video of the verdict being read above.
