Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Wife Tenisha Tributes Late Actor In Post Ahead of Anniversary

Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s sudden passing in July left many grieving the beloved actor, but for his wife and young daughter, his death cut deeper. Over the weekend, the late ‘Cosby Show’ star’s widow, Tenisha Warner, finally revealed her identity with an emotional tribute ahead of what would have been their wedding anniversary.
“Thank you for holding us in so much love during this tender time,” she wrote in an Instagram post that included a never-before-seen photo from their 2017 wedding. “Tomorrow marks our anniversary — and my heart is wide open. For the first time, I’m sharing a glimpse of the love that began it all. I can still hear my husband’s laugh, still feel the way he made room for every part of me — every tear, every dream.”
“Today, in his honor, my daughter and I are launching River & Ember and officially opening The Warner Family Foundation,” she announced of a new venture inspired by her late husband. “Together we carry the legacy my husband and I began—one that nurtures children’s inner light and gives young artists the freedom to create outside the lines.”
According to the initiative’s page, River & Ember, will offer seasonal toolkits designed to help families strengthen emotional resilience through art, mindfulness, and connection.
In another slide introducing the foundation, Tenisha reflected on her husband’s presence, calling him a “river” — “steady, sure, and always moving toward what matters.” She also honored his spirit as an “ember,” describing it as “glowing with encouragement, igniting possibility in those around him.”
Tenisha closed her message with a reminder of: “the river that carried us. To the ember that never goes out. Your love was the first story I wanted to keep telling.”

Warner, best known for his iconic role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, died at 54 after drowning during a family vacation in Costa Rica.
In a statement posted to Facebook by Caribbean Guard, a volunteer lifeguard group in Costa Rica, officials detailed the efforts to save the 54-year-old actor from the dangerous waters. The message, originally written in Spanish and translated by VIBE, confirmed Warner’s tragic passing.
“We deeply regret the death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner at Playa Grande. He was swept away by a strong rip current and died from drowning,” the post read. “Everything happened very quickly. Although beachgoers attempted to rescue him, they could not reach him in time. When he was finally pulled from the water, he showed no vital signs, and CPR administered on the beach was unsuccessful.”

In one of Warner’s final interviews, he reflected on his marriage, saying, “I’ve never, never second-guessed it. There was a moment when I realized when people say, ‘When you know, you know,’ that’s what that feeling is’.”
He added, “We’ve been together almost 10 years and we have never had a fight, an argument, a raised voice or a harsh word said to one another … And it’s not like we agree on everything.”
