Common Opens Up About “Equally Yoked” Relationship With Jennifer Hudson

Common is not holding back about his deep feelings for his current girlfriend, Jennifer Hudson. During a conversation with Samantha Chatman on the Mama I Made It podcast, the Chicago rapper detailed why he feels they are meant to be.
“That relationship is one of the greatest blessings and most important things in my life,” he elaborated. “The friendship, the partnership, the life partnership… just the connection. Man. It’s one of those things where you dont know truly what true partnership or relationship is until you get there. And it took me some time, maybe to grow and evolve as a person. It’s like those things you pray for, you dont get them until you’re ready. I think whatever growing I had to do, it was the divine time in alignment with when Jennifer and I started being interested in each other. ”

He continued to explain, “We had been around each other. We’ve worked together before, but this was the time where we just felt and got to see each other in that way. It’s inspiring to have somebody who’s as talented and just soulful and gifted and can do all these different things and is one of the greatest vocalists of all time.”
“She’s a special artist. But then, to have someone, when it comes to relationships. It’s equally yoked.”
The two Chicago natives were rumored to be dating in 2022 when they co-starred in Breathe. The gossip resurfaced in 2023, and by 2024, the two were vocal about their love for one another.
“My mother was right. I think if she had met you, [she’d say] ‘I don’t know about the rest of them, but that Common is alright with me,’” expressed the American Idol alum. “That’s what she would say. And I would agree. I think it’s a beautiful thing. I think you are a deserving man and, you know, I support that idea. I think it’s a beautiful idea. I will say that.”
