Actor DeRon Horton Reveals He Was Shot Days Before Christmas
Actor Deron Horton took to Instagram on Thursday (Jan. 16) to share that he was shot days before Christmas.
While sharing images from the hospital and of the incident’s aftermath, the Dear White People star wrote, “First off. I wanna give an honor to God for covering me and protecting me to make it out this situation and countless other ones.” He then thanked “everybody that checked on me n holla’d at me specially my family [and] friends; I love yall, Thank you.”
When easing the angst surrounding the shocking news, Horton quipped, “Gettin shot a few days before Xmas def wasn’t on my wish list [laughing emoji] but it happened.”
The Houston native explained that someone shot at him through his car. The bullet broke his arm, “shattered it all type [of] s**t but I’m blessed dawg to not be in a casket or paralyzed. Lord, Thank You.”
Horton did confirm that he’s out of the hospital and is still healing. “I got a plate [and] screws in my mf arm, so I can’t workout for a minute which I’m mad about BUT it coulda been worse! And I don’t need no sympathy. I’m finna bounce right back; I feel amazing.”
The statement concluded by urging others and himself “to keep God first! Stay alert [and] grateful for everything,” before noting, “The devil can’t stop s**t when you walk [with] God.” No other details about the shooting were shared.
Horton starred on the Netflix adaptation of Dear White People for all four seasons. After that run, he appeared on six episodes of Apple TV’s The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey.
