Jamie Foxx’s ‘What Had Happened Was…’ Special Sets Premiere Date
Jamie Foxx is ready to share his story.
The 56-year-old returns to standup comedy in his latest endeavor with Netflix, and the streaming platform has set a premiere date. Announced on Friday (Nov. 1), the Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… special will debut on the streamer on Dec. 10, 2024.
In addition to confirming a release date, the They Cloned Tyrone star and Netflix have also shared a teaser for the anticipated watch. “I said, ‘If I can stay funny, I could stay alive’ … I’m back,” explains the comedian in the clip.
The actor is set to detail his April 2023 medical emergency, which left him hospitalized and sparked rumors and conspiracy theories on the cause of his health scare.
“Look, April 11 last year, bad headache asked my boy for an Advil [and] I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything. I’m in Atlanta, they told me—my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor,” explained the Grammy winner in July.
The special was announced earlier this year, with Foxx detailing, “Everybody wants to know what happened, and I’m going to tell you what happened, but I gotta do it my way. I’m going to do it in a funny way. I’m going to be on stage,” while accepting the Producers Award from the African American Film Critics Association.
According to Variety, Foxx performed the routine over a three-night engagement in Atlanta last month. The streaming platform reportedly won the rights to the special in a competitive situation.
The special is executive produced by Foxx, as well as Datari Turner, Marcus King, James Longman, Raj Kapoor, Hamish Hamilton, and Katy Mullan. It is also directed by Hamilton and is produced by Foxxhole Productions and Done + Dusted. Watch the teaser for Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…above.
