Snoop Dogg Scores Major Legal Victory Regarding 1993 Arrest

Snoop Dogg has had a huge 2024 and fans recently learned about a personal, legal victory that makes his year even better. The 52-year-old’s 1993 murder charge has officially been sealed.

TMZ Hip Hop obtained legal documents that revealed Snoop and his legal team asked for the charge to be sealed back in January 2024. The court signed off on that the following month and approved his request to seal his arrest. Reportedly, Ceasar McDowell and Unite The People, his nonprofit organization, assisted the Long Beach, Calif., rapper in this significant endeavor.

21 years later, the Doggfather can put that ordeal behind him. The “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper was arrested after the MTV VMAs where he famously performed “Murder Was The Case,” a lyrical depiction of the allegations he was facing for the shooting of a man in a Los Angeles park in 1993. His bodyguard was also arrested.

Snoop Dogg was found not guilty of the murder in 1996 and went on to have a successful career in music, film, and entertainment at large. This past summer, he was the celebrity spokesperson for the Summer Olympics in Paris. Now, it is clear that he was already riding a wave of positivity leading into the Olympics due to his 1993 murder charge being sealed.

The Soul Plane actor made another major move this month when his Death Row Records label inked a publishing partnership with Reservoir Media that will include his discography and the entire Death Row catalog. Reservoir will head up the domestic publishing for all of Snoop’s future releases, namely his collaborative album with Dr. Dre titled Missionary. He acquired ownership of the legendary label in 2022.

“I’m so honored to have them as a partner and excited for all the great things to come with the catalogue as well as new music ventures,” he said after the deal was announced. “2024 and beyond.” Donna Caseine, the Reservoir Executive Vice President and Global Creative Director, echoed his excitement. “Legendary artists only need one name. Snoop is part of that echelon,” she said. “From music, to brands, television, and film, his acumen represents excellence. For the last three decades he has been a pillar of hip-hop music and popular culture. He helped write Death Row Records into music’s history books.”
