Usher Reflects On “Last Minute” Wedding, Calls It An “Amazing Moment”

Usher married his longtime girlfriend and the mother of his two youngest children, Jennifer Goicoechea, back in February ahead of his highly-anticipated Super Bowl Halftime Show.

While still basking in his newlywed bliss, he explained to New York Post, “What was already an amazing moment was peaked by a moment that I will remember forever. I was very happy to not only conclude my time in Las Vegas with the residency and then the Super Bowl, but to start on a new journey with my amazing wife and I was very happy to do it there.”

The 45-year-old expressed that while it was “abrupt,” it was also “one of the easiest ceremonies that I’ve ever experienced in my life.” He added, “It was something out of history. You hear about these kinds of things, but to have been able to do it was really a joyous moment between me and my wife and my children and my intimate and immediate family who was there.”

The doting pair obtained their marriage license on Feb. 8 and wed on Feb. 11, hours before he took the stage as Halftime Show headliner.

When teasing their nuptials ahead of the formal announcement, Usher told PEOPLE, “Listen, when you find someone that you know is a great partner, of course it is an honor and a pleasure to be able to share life with someone who wants to share it with you and loves you, who you are. We’ve obviously made a commitment to life together because of our children. It wouldn’t be odd for us to get married […] I really do feel like I have an amazing partner that I respect.”

Prior to Goicoechea, the Coming Home singer was married twice—first to Tameka Foster, whom he shares two sons with and then to Grace Miguel. He’s previously opened up about his longing for love and fulfilling partnership in his August 2023 VIBE digital cover story.
