Sexyy Red Has Instant Classic Appearance On WWE NXT, Announced As ‘Battleground’ Guest Host
Sexyy Red made her debut on WWE television this week and made it as memorable as anything else she does. The 26-year-old unveiled the new NXT Women’s North American Championship and announced that she will be the special guest host for the developmental program’s Battleground event in Las Vegas on June 9.
The St. Louis star entered the arena Tuesday evening (May 28) to her hit song “Get It Sexyy” and twerked upon entering the ring. She joined NXT General Manager Ava, daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, to reveal the title that superstars Lash Legend, Sol Ruca, Fallon Henley, Jaida Parker, Kelani Jordan, and Michin would contend for in a ladder match; notably, five of the six women in that match are Black.
After showing the crowd the title, she briefly got into a tug-of-war over the belt with Tatum Paxley. Fortunately, Michin entered the ring to save Red before she defeated Paxley to qualify for the NXT Women’s North American Championship ladder match.
Later in the show, Sexyy Red joined NXT Champion Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans in the locker room to wish them luck for their upcoming match with the Scottish faction Gallus. Williams suggested that she accompany them to the ring and she accepted. There, she provided one of the most viral moments of the night as she twerked in front of Williams and Evans while they sat on the barricade. She even provided Williams and Evans the assist when Joe Coffey attempted to use Williams’ title against him; her interference distracted Gallus and allowed Williams to hit the Trickshot for the victory.
The internet was buzzing over Red’s appearance but the biggest moment hadn’t yet come. She shared a video with WWE Hall Of Famer and NXT Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels, where they both sang along to his classic entrance music “Sexy Boy.” Paul “Triple H” Levesque, the current Chief Content Officer Of WWE, poked fun at his old tag team partner and current co-worker by quoting the video and writing, “Let’s all be glad he didn’t start twerking.”
This linkup was months in the making, as Red shared a video listening to Michaels’ theme song back in March and then another video where she played her reimagination of the iconic entrance music. The “SkeeYee” rapper slowly began to tweet more about professional wrestling and then announced that she was planning to come to NXT. The company welcomed her with open arms and even promoted her latest album In Sexyy We Trust.
Sexyy Red is already planning for future appearances and possibly even getting into the WWE ring. “What should my finisher move be called?” she wrote on X, referring to special moves wrestlers use which often signify the end of a match.
Outside of squared circle business, the rising star shared her latest project In Sexyy We Trust this past Friday (May 24). The 14-track effort featured Drake, Lil Baby, Mike Will Made-It, and VonOff1700. The Drake collaboration “U My Everything” marked her second time working with the 6 God following “Rich Baby Daddy” from his October 2023 album For All The Dogs. Sexyy Red simply can’t be stopped.
